[ FOUNDERS STORY ]

Our journey began in 2014 when our founder, Derek Richardson, had a casual conversation with a neighbor in the homebuilding industry. He discovered a major roadblock—builders were actively steering clients away from smart home technology due to high installation costs, complexity, and ongoing support challenges.

At the same time, Derek was replacing light switches in his own home and was frustrated with the process. This sparked an idea: What if there were a modular lighting system that made installation and customization easy? And just like that, Deako was born.

Today, Deako is revolutionizing home lighting with modular smart switches that allow homeowners to personalize their lighting experience—no electrician required. Our system makes it easy to swap between simple and smart switches, giving you the flexibility to upgrade your home’s lighting at any time.
