Installation Overview

This installation guide will walk you through installing Deako Switches in a 4-way circuit.

Navigation

Tap the menu icon above at any time to navigate through the installation guide.

Step 1 of 5

Turn off the power

Identify the appropriate circuit breaker at your panel and flip it to the off position.

Step 2 of 5

Strip existing wires at the 3-way line location

Strip the wires coming out of the wall to 3/8". Do not shorten the Deako Backplate wires.

Step 3 of 5

Trim yellow wires on a Deako Backplate

Using wire cutters, trim the yellow wires on a Deako Backplate so that it is flush to the plastic (you will not need this wire).

Step 4 of 5

Connect wires for the 3-way line

Using wire nuts, connect the wires as show in the diagram above for the 3-way line.

Note the color of the traveler wire you connect to both the blue and red Deako wires before moving onto the next step (Deako switches are polarity sensitive).

Step 5 of 5

Screw in Deako Backplate

  • a. Carefully manage wires into the junction box
  • b. Once backplate can be pressed flush to wall, screw the Deako Backplate into the junction box using included screws

Step 1 of 4

Strip existing wires at the 4-way line location

Move to the 4-way location of the circuit and strip the wires coming out of the wall to 3/8".
Do not shorten the Deako Backplate wires.

Step 2 of 4

Connect wires for the 4-way line

Using wire nuts, connect the wires as show in the diagram above for the 4-way line.

The blue and red Deako wires will be connected to the pair of travelers you marked with wire nuts earlier. The yellow and black Deako wires will be connected to the other pair.

Step 3 of 4

Screw in Deako Backplate

  • a. Carefully manage wires into the junction box
  • b. Once backplate can be pressed flush to wall, screw the Deako Backplate into the junction box using included screws

Step 4 of 4

If you have more than one 4-way line

If you have more than one 4-way line in your 4-way circuit, repeat this section for the other backplate.

Once you have installed Deako Backplates in all 4-way line locations in the circuit, continue to the next section.

Step 1 of 5

Strip existing wires at the 3-way load location

Move to the 3-way line load of the circuit and strip the wires coming out of the wall to 3/8".
Do not shorten the Deako Backplate wires.

Step 2 of 5

Trim yellow wire on a Deako Backplate

Using wire cutters, trim the yellow wire on a Deako Backplate so that it is flush to the plastic (you will not need this wire).

Step 3 of 5

Connect wires for the 3-way load

Using wire nuts, connect the wires as show in the diagram above for the 3-way load.

Step 4 of 5

Screw in Deako Backplate

  • a. Carefully manage wires into the junction box
  • b. Once backplate can be pressed flush to wall, screw the Deako Backplate into the junction box using included screws

Step 5 of 5

Turn the power on

Identify the appropriate circuit breaker at your panel and flip it to the on position.
