Installation Overview


This installation guide will walk you through uninstalling your existing switches and installing Deako Switches in a 3-way circuit.

Step 1 of 4

Turn off the power


Identify the appropriate circuit breaker at your panel and flip it to the off position.

Remove faceplate & mounting screws


Using a screwdriver, remove all screws attaching the faceplate & switch to the junction box.

Carefully pull switch out


Pull the switch straight out so that you can see the wires & where they are attached to the switch.

Step 4 of 4

Repeat for each switch in the circuit


Move to the next switch in the circuit and repeat the previous section for that switch.

Once you have uninstalled the existing switches in the circuit, continue to the next section.

Identify the common


The common wire will be attached to the black screw on a 3-way switch.

Remove the common and mark it


Using a screwdriver, remove the common and mark it by twisting a wire nut onto it.

Step 3 of 4

Remove the other wires


Remove the other wires from the 3-way switch.

The travelers will be on the brass or gold screws. The ground will be on the green screw.

Step 4 of 4

Repeat for each switch in the circuit


Move to the next switch in the circuit and repeat this section for that switch.

Once you have identified the wires for each switch in the circuit, continue to the next section.

Turn off the power


Identify the appropriate circuit breaker at your panel and flip it to the off position.

Strip existing wires


Strip the wires coming out of the wall to 3/8". Do not shorten the Deako Backplate wires.

Step 3 of 7

Trim yellow wires


Using wire cutters, trim the yellow wires on both Deako Backplates so that they are flush to the plastic (you will not need these).

Connect wires


Using wire nuts, connect the wires as show in the diagram above

Screw in Deako Backplate


  • a. Carefully manage wires into the junction box
  • b. Once backplate can be pressed flush to wall, screw the Deako Backplate into the junction box using included screws

Step 6 of 7

Repeat for each switch in the circuit


Move to the next switch in the circuit and repeat this section for that switch.
Once you have installed both Deako Backplates in the 3-way circuit, continue to the next step.

Step 7 of 7

Turn the power on


Identify the appropriate circuit breaker at your panel and flip it to the on position.

Plug in a Deako Simple Switch


Install a Deako Simple Switch into one of the Deako Backplates.

  • a. Insert the switch into the Deako Backplate
  • b. Align the blue tab with the slot on the Deako Switch
  • c. While pressing the switch inwards, push in the blue tab

Snap on Deako Faceplate


Install the Deako Faceplate by snapping it onto the backplate.

Step 3 of 3

Repeat for each switch in the circuit


Move to the next switch in the circuit and repeat this section for each switch in the circuit.
Once you have installed Deako Simple Switches into each switch in the circuit, continue to the next step.

Install a Deako Smart Switch into one of the Deako Backplates.

  • c. While pressing the switch inwards, push in the blue tab

Snap on Deako Faceplate


Install the Deako Faceplate by snapping it onto the backplate.

Repeat for each switch in the circuit


Move to the next switch in the circuit and repeat this section for each switch in the circuit.
Once you have installed Deako Smart Switches into each switch in the circuit, continue to the next step.

Step 4 of 4

3-way & 4-way linking


Deako Smart Switches and Smart Dimmers are single-pole by default. To change them into 3-way and 4-way switches, follow the instructions above.

Troubleshooting

If a switch continues flashing for more than a minute, exit pairing mode by pressing and holding the switch for 6 seconds. Then, before retrying, factory reset each switch in the circuit. How do I factory reset a Deako Switch?

Plug in a Deako Smart Switch at the line location


Install a Deako Smart Switch into the line location of the circuit.

  • a. Insert the switch into the Deako Backplate
  • b. Align the blue tab with the slot on the Deako Switch
  • c. While pressing the switch inwards, push in the blue tab

Deako Smart Dimmers must only be installed at the load location of the circuit

Snap on Deako Faceplate


Install the Deako Faceplate by snapping it onto the backplate.

Step 3 of 5

Plug in a Deako Smart Dimmer at the load location


Install a Deako Smart Dimmer into the load location of the circuit.

  • a. Insert the switch into the Deako Backplate
  • b. Align the blue tab with the slot on the Deako Switch
  • c. While pressing the switch inwards, push in the blue tab
