We recently released our Simple Astronomical Timer Switch. This switch uses an internal clock to schedule your outdoor lights and tailors dusk-to-dawn lighting to your location.
California’s Title 24 requires energy-saving devices such as astronomical timer switches on outdoor lights. But no matter where you live, if you love the safety of an automatically well-lit house—but don’t prefer the internet-connected Smart Switch—this is an excellent solution.

Dusk-to-dawn lighting
Outdoor lighting helps deter crime—including burglary, arson, and even scarier things. So if work or activities keep you from turning your lights on by sunset, your house isn’t as secure as possible.
Adding a Simple Astronomical Timer Switch to control your outdoor lights keeps your home safer.
The Simple Astronomical Timer Switch’s internal clock and regional setting calculate the dusk and dawn times where you live. And the Daylight Savings Time feature makes your clock spring forward or fall back at the appropriate times.
With the proper programming, your lights automatically turn on when it gets dark. And they’ll turn off right before sunrise, so you don’t pay more on wasteful energy bills.
Adjustable 7-day schedule
While the dusk-to-dawn schedule is the Simple Astronomical Timer Switch’s most impressive feature, you can adjust it or choose your own on and off times. It’s your home, after all—we want the lighting to fit your needs.
When fine-tuning your dusk-to-dawn schedule, you can easily add or subtract a few minutes (or even hours) from calculated times.
If you’d prefer, you can set specific on and off times that aren’t connected to dusk and dawn. And the Simple Astronomical Timer Switch can keep one “on” and one “off” time for every day of the week, so you can create a different lighting schedule for each day.
Setting up the Simple Astronomical Timer Switch might take a few minutes. But a battery backup will help protect your internal clock and program settings during power outages. Once you’ve set everything correctly, you shouldn’t have to bother with the switch unless you want to change your schedule.
Random on-and-off operation
While it might not be a feature you use every day, you can also set the Simple Astronomical Timer Switch to turn on and off randomly.
When you go on vacation, set up a Simple Astronomical Timer Switch with your indoor lights. Use the random feature to make your house look lived in and deter burglars casing your neighborhood.
Manual override
Should you ever need lights on or off at a different time than scheduled, you’ve got the manual override button. This button doubles as a cover over the programming buttons for a sleek look. Just click the manual override button anytime you want to change the lights.
How to set up the Astronomical Timer Switch
Enjoy hands-off lighting
While you can’t control it from your phone, Alexa, or Google Home like the Deako Smart Switch, the Deako Simple Astronomical Timer Switch offers automatic lighting without Bluetooth or internet connection. It’s what you need to keep your outdoor lights shining brightly to welcome you home and keep burglars away.
